China has become the main importer of sawn timber and roundwood from Russia
During the 5th Siva International Wood Industry Exhibition, Shamorin, chairman of the board of directors of the Russian Segezha Group, said that Russia has shifted its exports from the West to Asia, mainly China.
Shamorin said: "Most of the directions of exports have been adjusted. This mainly involves pulp and paper products and plywood, while sawn timber has been supplied to China for a long time. We plan to display all the group's products in China and develop sales channels. The Segezha Group has its own forest resources and is developing service directions. It has warehouses in China to ensure supply services to customers and settle in Russian and Chinese local currencies. Recently, the Segezha Group opened a representative office in Shanghai, which will enable the company to provide better services."
In December 2023, Pavel Chasin, head of the Russian forestry statistics agency Roslesinforg, said that China has become the main importer of sawn timber and roundwood in Russia (importing 14 million cubic meters). In 2023, Russia's sawn timber exports to China increased by 3%, while the supply of unprocessed wood decreased by a quarter. (Source: wood168.net)
